Many 'systems' people need to manage are complicated, with inter-dependencies, long delays between actions and results. Cracking such challenges needs a rigorous, reliable method and system dynamics is a powerful tool that does just that.
This one-day workshop will explain those principles and demonstrate how you can use them to map real-world problems. It will then show how that initial diagnosis can be turned into a working simulation, first to check and validate the manual analysis and then to explore options to fix the problem and test sensitivities to important assumptions. Lastly, you will see how such a model can be used as the basis for a simple management control panel, to ensure the problem stays fixed as the future unfolds. As a take-away, participants will receive a 5-month licence for one of the simplest system-dynamics modelling packages, together with some working simulations of common issues.

Back in the days before we all had computers on our desks, and fancy modelling and analysis tools to use on them, we used to get an awful lot done with a pen and some bits of paper. Some of these simple techniques can produce surprisingly powerful results when applied correctly, and it is the aim of this interactive one-day event to give delegates the opportunity to try some of them out. Every delegate will receive expert tuition and a walk-through of each method, before trying them out on our sample problem...
For this event we will be challenging delegates to use simple systems techniques to address the problem of how to save the earth from meteor attack. We expect this problem to provide plenty of scope for looking at different systems aspects across the range of possible solution options.

The INCOSE UK Autumn Assembly (AA08) offers you the chance to explore cutting edge advances in Systems Engineering principles and practices.
At this year's INCOSE International Symposium in the Netherlands the UK Chapter was once again awarded the INCOSE President's Award for the best international chapter. One of the reasons for the success of the UK Chapter is the very high standard of technical activity undertaken by individual members and UK based working groups. We would like to offer they the chance to find out more about these advances in Systems Engineering principles and practice through a series of "master class" sessions and hands on workshops
